Ronnie Fieg não esconde o fascínio que guardou pelos modelos que um dia foram exclusivos do Japão, especialmente pelos NIKE AIR FORCE 1 do pack CO.JP, lançados no começo dos anos 2000.

O pack foi tema de um post especial dele, quando anunciou a abertura da KITH Tokyo, justificando a escolha do FORCE para marcar a estreia da loja, através de uma nova colab com a NIKE, e o uso da silhueta na decoração.

Daquele pacote, o AIR FORCE 1 “Taiwan” parece ter servido de referência para mais um AF1 assinado pela KITH, e que só deve chegar ao mercado em 2021. O modelo já havia sido flagrado por meio de uma foto anteriormente vazada, mas novas imagens detalham melhor a execução, que parece promover um encontro entre Nova York e a Ásia, usando o mesmo tipo e formato de Swoosh da edição “Taiwan”, só que sobre um cabedal preto e cheio de referências à cidade onde Fieg nasceu.

A história certinha por trás da criação, bem como suas informações de lançamento, o tempo e o designer do Queens devem se encarregar de nos trazer.

To coincide with the opening of our Tokyo flagship this Saturday, we will be releasing something very special. Something I have been dying to speak about for a year now. But first I want to share some context… In the early 2000s (mainly 2001) Nike began releasing exclusive Air Force 1’s in Japan that weren’t available anywhere else. This program was called Concept Japan or co.JP. I was doing everything possible from my bedroom in Queens to get my hands on them. Hunting online, trying to make connections overseas, etc. To this day, the co.JP AF1s are some of my favorite ever. Not only for their unique colorways and materials, but also for how hard they were to get. Moments like these are why I truly love footwear. When designing our new Tokyo flagship, I wanted to pay homage to this moment in my life. I decided not to continue our Jordan cast motif, but instead chose a new silhouette for a new continent – the Air Force 1. We created white AF1 casts for our domed ceiling entryway, as well as a gradient color palette in the front window of our footwear section of the store. Finally, my dreams were realized when the good people at the Swoosh saw my vision and we worked together to relive the era of the co.JP’s with a Japan-exclusive Air Force 1 of my own. Inspired by the Japan flag (which is seen on the tongue label), we used a premium white leather upper with red hits like the velvet lining. We rounded it out with classic elements like a vintage off-white sole and an embroidered mini-Swoosh on the forefoot. Our Kith monogram on the quarter panels was the final seal of approval. The Kith x Nike Air Force 1 “Tokyo” will release in-store only at Kith Tokyo this Saturday 7/4. It will never release online or at any other Kith shop. For those of you who don’t live in Tokyo, I hope you appreciate the hunt the way I did 20 years ago.
